It’s an especially magical Christmas this year because the much-awaited Wonder Woman 1984 has finally hit theaters and HBO Max on Friday. The second movie installment of the superhero franchise stars the gorgeous Gal Gadot, aged 35, reprising her role as Diana Prince, the fearless protagonist fighting against Maxwell Lord and the Cheetah in a thrilling eighties-themed adventure.
Although she had a remarkable display of skills and acting in the film, it was a certain cameo during the end credits that had fans talking. Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman, made a special appearance as an Amazon warrior named Asteria, who was alluded to in the movie as the first person to wear the golden armor that Gal Gadot dons in the final battle. Her portrayal of the trailblazing warrior is definitely a delight to behold.
In the movie, Asteria’s character is hinted at throughout the story but is finally revealed towards the end as she rescues people from a dangerous situation in a market by effortlessly lifting a falling pole with her arm. She confidently tells one of the saved individuals that this is something she has been doing for a while now and even gives her signature twirl while winking at the camera. This appearance might hint at the possibility of a third film where Gadot and Carter’s characters could cross paths.
Patty Jenkins, the director of the Wonder Woman franchise, has always been interested in having Lynda Carter make a cameo appearance. Jenkins mentioned that the scene was planned all along and came to fruition later on. Carter has been a big supporter of the franchise and even teased her appearance in the film by saying she had some “big news” while promoting tickets for the movie. Carter played Wonder Woman in the 1975-1979 TV series and is widely associated with the character, even though Gal Gadot took over the role in more recent adaptations. Despite this, Carter still holds a special place in her heart for the iconic superhero.
In October, she mentioned that Wonder Woman has taught her that everyone has untapped inner strength that allows them to do the right thing. It might not give us the power to lift cars, but it is enough to uplift and support one another. When the Wonder Woman movie was released, Gadot expressed her excitement to hear what people think about the film. Jenkins, who has developed a close relationship with Gadot, reports that they are in regular communication with Lynda Carter through group text messages.
